Speech Contest, on April 20th 2013 @ SMAN 2 BEKASI

Bismillahirahmanirahim…
Assalamualaikum Wr Wb.

With all due respect to the honorable judges, to the teacher from all senior high schools in Bekasi, and all the audience here, ladies and gentlemen…

First of all, let us thank to Allah SWT because of the blessings, we all can gather here. Shalawat and prayer, we will say to our greatest prophet Muhammad SAW, his family, his friends and his followers. Amen.
Let me introduce my self. My name is Bilqis Sabiilalhaqq. I’m from four senior high school.
In this chance, I would like to tell you my speech that has the theme “The culture of Indonesia is almost fade”

As we know, Indonesia has many cultures. We are as young people need to be aware that culture is an irreplaceable treasure. Culture can not be created easily, especially in a short time. There have been many efforts to preserve the culture of Indonesia, but these efforts haven’t been enough. In the current era the culture in Indonesia is increasingly fade because of the influence of foreign culture. So, what should we do? The answer is, It depends on how Indonesia’s people respons. There are so many things that prove the fading culture of Indonesia from little things to the big things.
The example for little things are:

1.       Kissed the hands of parents.

It is usually called ‘salim’. This is an obligation to the parents when children will to go to school or somewhere.  Actually it is important, beside to instill a sense of our love for parents, kissed the hand is also a sign of respect and gratitude towards them. Have you kissed the hands of your parents today?

2.       Smile and Greet.

Our nation is famous as  friendly and smiling people. So, don’t lose it. It won’t hurt us to do it, it’s also beneficial to us. To smile and say hello can add friends too.

3.       Discussion.

This culture that is rarely found, especially in big cities like Jakarta. The example for the problem is the collapsed bridge. For the problem like this, people is not longer use a discussion to find solutions, they submit the problem to the government. It means the people don’t care anymore. But let's see the villagers still use this culture. When there is any problem, they use discussion to find the solutions. It means they still care. They live peacefully and trust each other, there is no such thing as fighting each other, the differences resolved by consensus.

4.       Help each other.

Have you heard? "That isn’t my business” "I don’t care,"  What's the matter with you guys? we are as a young  generation should rise our sympathy by helping each other, like helping a friend who has the problem.

The example above only explains a little thing, what about big things?

I have the other factors about the big things. Let me mention them.
1. One of the legendary Indonesian’s culture is batik.
Batik is the one of culture product that has been famous in the world and in recent times, batik begins to receive attention from the young generation

2.       The traditional dance replaced by modern dance.
Reog Ponorogo and Pendet have been claimed by  Malaysia. I think it happen because the current generation doesn’t preserve the traditional dance. Now, the young generation prefers to modern dance.

Beloved audience….

I had an experience. When I visited my uncle home, I played with my cousins ,she is five years old. I also told her to sing traditional song from Papua. Let’s sing that song,  “Apuse  kokondao.  Yarabe  soren  doreri. Wuf  lenso  bani  nema  baki  pase. Arafabye  aswarakwar”
but unexpectedly, my cousin can not sing that traditional song. She sang “kau  bidadari  jatuh  dari   surga   di hadapan   ku,  eaaaa”. This is also a proof that traditional songs are not longer popular among the young generation.

In the end, we know Indonesia has many cultures from the little things to the big things. For the little things are, kissed the hands of parents, smile and greet, discussion, help each other. And for the fact of the big things are Indonesia's traditional song and dance have been claimed by other countries.

Well, I guess that’s all I can tell. I hope it can be useful for all of you. I’m sorry if there are many mistake. Thank you for your attention.

Wassalamualaikum  wr  wb
